A self-taught patchworker/quilter since 1983, Juliet’s passion is paper-foundation piecing and working on small wall-hangings, both traditional and arty or innovative. She loves bright colours, black, Kiwiana fabrics, and has a reputation for collecting and using selvedges – a true recycler!
Living above Waihi Beach with a view of pohutukawas, wetlands, rolling hills and the distant sound of the surf, provide inspiration for this self-confessed quilt competition junkie! She's lost track of how many over the past 30 years with numerous entries and several awards in the Hoffman Challenge (winner Best Contemporary 2010), the last 9 Symposium Exhibitions and many Quilts Aotearoa exhibitions/challenges. She particularly likes using a challenge fabric and the ensuing challenges, working best to a deadline.
Juliet loves passing her quilting knowledge on to others, and has been teaching various techniques since 1998, specializing in paper-foundation piecing. She has taught at several national and mini Symposia, clubs around NZ, quilting retreats, plus Quilt Encounter in Adelaide. Aotearoa Quilters plays a large part in Juliet’s life. A member for many years, she participates in all its challenges, and currently is Minute Secretary.
