Raised in Waipara, North Canterbury, Sue’s creativity was encouraged and she was surrounded with craft materials from an early age. She learnt to sew on her Brownie leader’s sewing machine at age 11. Sue discovered patchwork briefly as a young mum in the early 1990’s. The passion for patchwork was reignited in the early 2000’s and quickly progressed into a career path.
Sue is self-taught, gleaning knowledge from a huge array of other quilters, both local and international. She is not afraid to throw herself in the deep end and bought a longarm machine after quilting one quilt on a domestic machine. Sue has developed a love of applique, embroidery, wool dyeing and collage. In 2010 she expanded her long arm quilting business and opened the Pink Possum Quilt shop on her family farm in Greymouth.
Sue has designed her own patterns in wool embroidery and fabric collage since 2012 and a Block of the Month, Quirky Birds. She has taught in Australia, USA and multiple times throughout NZ. Loving to create, inspire and instruct, Sue does this in her latest initiative of her “Treasure Boxes”, a monthly subscription of themed patchwork items and projects which are posted across NZ and Australia.
